Event Details
While Tagoras research shows that social media is playing a growing role in association educational offerings, many association leaders still see a true social learning strategy as a luxury rather than a necessity. In this latest session of Leading Learning, we'll be joined by social learning thought leader Tony Bingham to get his perspectives on how new approaches to "social" are re-shaping how organizations approach learning and the critical role it may play for forward-thinking associations.
Tony is president of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and co-author of The New Social Learning
- so you won't find a better source for how social is likely to impact
your professional development programming. We strongly recommend that
attendees bring along their colleagues from marketing, membership, and
technology for this engaging, interactive discussion.
Doors will open at 8:00 and there will be time for networking and a continental breakfast. At 8:30, we'll dive into an interactive discussion with Tony facilitated by Tagoras managing director Jeff Cobb. We'll wrap up by 10:00, with a bit of time at the end for additional networking. Come prepared with your burning questions and unique perspectives.
Who Should Attend
This session is intended for staff of membership organizations. If you work for an association or non-profit, and are someone who helps to lead the learning initiatives offered by your organization, this event is for you. The session will be geared toward executives and their staff who are responsible for executing the organization's education strategy. As noted above, we also recommend that marketing, membership, and technology staff consider attending this session.

About Tony Bingham, President and CEO, ASTD
As the world’s largest professional association dedicated to the
training and development field, the American Society for Training &
Development (ASTD) is at the forefront of trends in learning and
workforce development.
Led by President and CEO, Tony Bingham, ASTD offers programs and
services to help members improve individual and organizational
performance through learning. ASTD’s 125 chapters in the United States
and 20 international partners provide opportunities for members to
convene at the local and regional levels throughout the world.
Tony is the co-author of The New Social Learning published in August
2010. Through stories and case studies, he and Marcia Conner offer
compelling evidence for the training profession on how to transform
learning using social media. Tony’s 2007 book, Presenting Learning, was
co-authored by Tony Jeary. It was written to help learning professionals
articulate the business case for learning more persuasively, position
themselves as a strategic partner, and communicate a compelling story
about the impact of learning on business results.
Together with the Board of Directors and supported by a staff of 90 and a
wide volunteer network, Tony is focused on helping members: lead talent
management in their organizations, build their business skills,
understand the impact of social media on informal learning, close skills
gaps, and connect their work to the strategic priorities of business.
ASTD is frequently quoted about these trends and its own research in
top-tier business publications such as BusinessWeek, the Financial
Times, and The Wall Street Journal.
In 2009, under Tony’s direction, ASTD expanded its reach with the
acquisitions of The Bureaucrat, Inc. and its quarterly journal, The
Public Manager, and the United Professional Sales Association (UPSA).
These affiliations help ASTD to spotlight the value of learning and its
impact on achieving results in the public sector and professional sales
field.
With broad-based business, financial, operational, and technical
management expertise, Tony joined ASTD in 2001 as the Chief Operating
Officer / Chief Information Officer. He became President and CEO in
February 2004.
